| Members of the India Council comprising
leaders in government, industry, and academia from both overseas and
India meet annually. The diversity of expertise of members will enable
the Council to bring different perspectives together.
The initiative is co-chaired by Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, Director, Earth Institute and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN (United Nations) and Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) and Chairman, IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Government of India, is the distinguished patron of this body. Hence, the work of the Council would be suitably fed into the plans and development strategies of the Government of India. TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) would, on an ongoing basis, provide secretariat support to the Council.
